Two Steps Backwards

China has banned Twitter, Hotmail and Flickr on the eve of the 20th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square military murders. Once a government has repressive powers it will always find excuses to abuse them.

  1. I don't follow. 'Once a government'? They're one of the most controlling regimes in the world. They've been filtering communications for years.

I agree, however, that it's contemptible.

  2. Not well expressed. The Chinese govenrment has always had excessive powers. There was some relaxation in the lead up to the 2008 Olympics, but was now winding back that window of partial freedom - two steps backwards.
