Having free speech entails allowing porn, other than that which involves the commission of a crime in its making, such as child pornography.
However that doesn't mean that you have to like the destructive effects that the porn industry leaves in its wake.
It's a bit like legalising drugs. You may choose that path as a lesser evil, without recommending the use of drugs, or liking the destructive effect they have on users.
I agree, but I'm not sure that legalizing drugs is actually the lesser of two evils (although I'm aware of the nonsense in the War on Drugs).
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't necessarily say that drugs is a 'free speech' issue. I think there is the extra factor of public health: there is the potential for some mutual responsibility to be claimed.
Agreed. I'm not sure about legalisation of drugs, but it is an option. It seems to make most people squeamish.
